Confusion Project

Live in China 2019 – Finding True NaTOUR

In July, Confusion Project, jazz trio from Poland, will be touring in China. The band will give 20 concerts in 12 cities, among other in Beijing, Guangzhou, Harbin, Shanghai, and Shenzhen. The tour will promote the latest album called „Primal” as a part of the Jazz Po Polsku project, promoting improvised Polish jazz music abroad.

Confusion Project is a jazz trio established in 2013 in Gdańsk, North of Poland, and since then they have recorded three LPs and gained a wide recognition in Europe. Their music is considered to be emotional, communicative and neo-romantic. The band’s ambition is to play jazz-fusion music in a fresh, delicate style and to strike a balance between humor and lyricism.

The band will be performing in prestigious theaters, jazz clubs and music academies in the North, Central and South provinces of China. Musicians will also lead workshops about improvisation and creativity for local students. Confusion Project will be performing in the following line up: Michał Ciesielski on piano, Konrad Żołnierek on bass guitar and Adam Golicki on drums. They will be accompanied in a few locations by Chinese rising guitar jazz talent, Jun Xiao, who performed in Poland last year.

„The band will be promoting its third album called Primal, which is a concept-album, a jazz suite divided into chapters. It is a tale of a lonely wanderer, who finds his real nature and primordiality on his journey deep into wilderness” – says Michał Ciesielski about the upcoming tour. „We will also lead the masterclasses, which will present many different ways of exploring the creativity in playing modern jazz music, in the context of rhythmic structure, creating melodies and working on sound”

Confusion Project has gained awards at several jazz competitions in Poland and also became one of the four finalists of the prestigious European Jazz Contest in 2014. In 2016 the trio performed at an international jazz competition “Big Sky” in Moscow – Michał Ciesielski earned 2nd prize in “the best instrumentalist” category. Since its formation Confusion Project has played in Italy, Kazachstan, the Netherlands, Russia and regularly in Poland.

Confusion Project tour is a part of the Jazz Po Polsku Live in China 2019 project and is supported by the Polish Institute – Cultural Service of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Beijing, General Consulates of the Republic of Poland in Chengdu and in Guangzhou, and Plateaux Foundation.

Jazz Po Polsku is a music platform, presenting a wide spectrum of young Polish musicians from the jazz, improvised and avantgarde scene. It aims at refreshing the image of Polish jazz music on the international arena. It also helps in establishing cultural cooperation and integrates artists from many countries. JPP has so far organized Polish events over 300 times all over the world, including regular tours in Asia.

Michał Ciesielski:
“After recording and touring with “The Future Starts Now” album it became clear to me, that the third album has to be something completely different. The future has already started so our music has to start changing as well. When I first came up with the idea of a concept album I was thrilled! That was it! Why keep on trying to tell one story per each song – let’s create a story that would last throughout the whole album.
The topic was another issue. If I want to elaborate on one topic for almost an hour so that it wouldn’t waste the listeners time then it better be a good one. And a topic I feel like exploring myself. So I came up with nature. Human nature but also the nature surrounding us. And the connection between them – something many people seem to forget. To make the story honest I had to answer myself – what is the most natural music for me? What is my nature as an artist?
So I came up with a story of a man taking an every-day walk to the old tree standing at the end of the road. Only this time he decides not to go back but to explore what’s further ….”

Confusion Project has just finished recording it’s third album!

Michał Ciesielski: “We visited the wonderful Monochrom Studio in Gniewoszów, Poland and after four days of hard work, we’ve managed to record a concept album – almost an hour long suite, called “Primal”. Huge thanks to our amazing sound engineer Ignacy Gruszecki for great cooperation and atmosphere!
Now we still have to do the mix and mastering of the album, still a lot of work ahead, so keep your fingers crossed 🙂 “
“Odwiedziliśmy znakomite studio Monochrom w Gniewoszowie, gdzie przez cztery dni pracowaliśmy nad materiałem. Efektem jest  nagranie prawie godzinnego concept albumu – suity zatytułowanej “Primal”. Ogromne podziękowania dla naszego realizatora, Ignacego Gruszeckiego, za świetną współpracę i przemiłą atmosferę!
Przed nami wciąż miks i mastering płyty, a to oznacza jeszcze sporo pracy, więc trzymajcie kciuki :)”
